The Prime Minister's Internship Scheme is a fantastic initiative launched on October 3, 2024, to provide one crore internships to young individuals over the next five years . The scheme aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, enhancing employability, skill development, and economic growth.
The scheme, was announced in this year's budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which aims to address youth unemployment by connecting young people with companies seeking talent.
Internships are available across 24 sectors and more than 20 fields, including operations management, production, maintenance, and sales. The program has opportunities in 737 districts across 37 states and union territories.
•The internship program lasts for 1 year (12 months), with at least half of the program focusing on hands-on real time work experience.
•Selected participants will receive a monthly stipend of ₹4,500 from the government, with an additional ₹500 provided by companies as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
•They will also get a one-time joining grant of ₹6,000 to cover incidental expenses and insurance coverage under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, with premiums paid by the government .
To qualify for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Age: Between 21 and 24 years old
- Employment status: Must not be engaged in full-time employment
- Educational background: At least Class 10, graduates from premier institutions or those with professional qualifications are excluded
- Income restrictions: Individuals from families with annual incomes exceeding ₹8 lakh are not eligible
•Eligible candidates can register online at the official portal, pminternship.mca.gov.in, starting from October 12, 2024 .
•Companies will submit available internship positions from October 3 to October 10, and candidates can apply for internships from October 12 to October 25 .

The scheme is part of the government's commitment to creating employment opportunities for approximately 4.1 crore youth over the next five years, with a budget of ₹2 lakh crore deployed . A grievance redressal mechanism and multilingual helpline (1800-116-090) have been set up to address any issues during the internship process .
